Ford Drag Cars
How can I make my 2006 Ford Ranger Faster?!?
I currently own a 2006 Ford Ranger V6 4.0 Liter with a K&N Cold Air Intake, Helix throttle Body Spacer, and E3 Performance plugs…. I might be selling the truck soon to get a legit drag car so do not want to dump a bunch of cash into this truck, dont get me wrong though, for a ranger this truck hauls ass and surprises people… So what are some cheap ways to get this truck faster for the drags Saturday night? I am going to take off the tailgate and spare tire to reduce weight keep in mind… should run High 15′s…. Thanks
It looks like you have addressed the restrictive factory intake, So why not the exhaust? Headers, high flow cats, and a free flowing y pipe really woke up my 4.3 chevy, I’m sure your Ranger would have similar results.
Another mod that is especially effective at the strip (short bursts are its specialty) is Nitrous. Contrary to popular belief it is not flammable, but carries a higher concentration of oxygen, allowing you to add more fuel to the motor, in turn producing more power. A hundred shot, with the proper tuning and fuel mixture, will have a very minor effect on the overall longevity of your motor, and is only addictive to the driver, not the motor.
The last, drag specific mod, would be to change the rear-end gear to one that is low enough to be hitting red line/shift point in your 1-1 gear at the finish line. (1-1 is the gear below overdrive, so a 5 speed manual in which 5th is overdrive, would be 4th). this will have a pronounced effect on you fuel mileage, so only do this if you want the lowest possible ETs for the power available.
Done correctly your truck will be a real sniper at the track, no one will see it coming. Thin fronts and drag shocks will help too, but with big trade-offs.
